Pistol-packing gimpy gal

Last summer my daughter visited House on the Rock and took this photograph of a woman’s wooden leg (presumably stored in a cedar chest).  What I found intriguing was the storage compartment built above the knee to hide a Derringer pistol.  There’s gotta be a story behind that!

Ma’am, you should have a look at http://thebredafallacy.blogspot.com
Breda is a gun-totin’ librarian with maybe 1.5 legs.

She’s a good shot, judging by the target pix she’s posted, but unfortunately, she’s not allowed to keep her piece with her at work, due to bad Ohio laws. I think the official policy at the library where she works, is that in the event of violent nastiness, everyone must run away.

Hello? She has one good natural leg, and one prosthetic one.

She has armed herself, like any prudent person, but is not allowed to be armed at work, where she arguably most needs to be armed

I believe I do know the story, or at least, once that very much fits. I’ll see if I can hunt it down, s’in one of my history books, if I’m not mistaken. Can’t imagine it being anything else, anyway. The one I’m thinking of, she was a spy, and one time when she radioed in she said her wooden leg (the code for it, which I forgot) was causing problems with her trip to safety, and her contact and her went over this a few times till her boss finally told her to ‘get rid of it’ if it jepordized her safety cuz he thought she was talking about her persuers. Ugh, it was so much more interesting reading than describing – I’ll have to find it for you.

Reminds me of Robert Rodriguez’s movie Planet Terror: one of the characters is an amputee, and instead of a prosthetic leg she has a machine gun :).

No woman should ever be without one.
