Are you Breaking Out?

No, not in spots …

“Breaking Out” is the theme for the upcoming Disability Blog Carnival, to be held right here. You can “break out” in any fashion, or from anything you want.

The deadline for submissions is Monday the 24th, and the Carnival will be posted on the 27th. You can post me your links here in the comments, or use this submission form.

The next Disability Blog Carnival #35 will be at Reimer Reason, where Jodi says the theme is The Hardest Part. The Carnival’s on April 10th, so that means getting posts in by the 7th, either by posting a comment on the blog, or through the Blog Carnival site.

This DBC is up now here.

aw man, I wish I’d known about this before…..I just read about it on Amanda’s blog…..I’ll be sure to check for the next disability blog carnival, as I can’t submit something even late…..and be in time for this one, I don’t have anything right now.

I’ve been a regular reader of Amanda’s blog for over a year now. It’s almost 2am and I can’t think very well……to provide an intro to me…….I’m one personality in a system of three….you can read about us at our blog if you wish

This theme has inspired me to start the blog I’ve been meaning to start for a while now.

    Fledchen,

The irony is not lost on me, either! Even without significant vision problems, I sometimes have problems with the CAPTCHA and have blogged about it as well. Personally, I hate the damn word verification things; mine seem to have too many wobbly i j b d p q letters in them, and unlike real words with familiar orthography (where I can rely on kinesthetic memory for my fingers to “autofill”), they are hard for me to read and type in correctly.

That is why I mentioned posting links here in the comments section. I’m looking forward to everyone’s responses, and hope you will have something for the carnival as well.

Hi Fledchen–We’ve recognized the shortcomings of the blogcarnival.com page from before the beginning of the Disability Blog Carnival, and have made sure there are always alternative means of submitting links for consideration–as Andrea has done in this call, by inviting submissions in comments. (It’s also usually true that just putting “Disability Blog Carnival” in the text of your post is enough to bring it to my attention.)

We would love to find another blog carnival organizer that’s more accessible, or to see the blogcarnival.com folks improve their accessibility, but until then, we make the carnival accessible by providing our own alternative means of submission.

I find it rather ironic that a disability blog carnival submission page would be inaccessible to blind and print-disabled people because of an image-based CAPTCHA.
