“Teh internets” at home finally got fixed late yesterday afternoon, after being out for two days. Woke up this morning with what feels like one of those “not-deadly-just-entrenched-for-two-or-three-days” migraines coming on. Will see if the meds help, soon as I feel like keeping something down so I can take the meds to make the migraine go away, so I don’t feel so nauseous and unsteady and unable to access so many of the “higher cognitive skills” widgets in my brain. Yeh, viscious circle, is it not?
First line of attack on the migraine is drinking some strong coffee (yay caffeine), and putting on my iTunes to drown out the louder-than-usual tinnitus that tops hearing aid feedback for dB and Hz obnoxiousness. (Okay okay, for you audiophiles I’m listening to “The tortoise and the hare” from Flook’s album Haven; it’s Celtic music. Now anyway), and began catching up on two days’ worth of blog reading.
At Planet of the Blind, Connie had posted a blog rating, which I find to be one of those humorous little asides. So I went and had mine done up:

The blog rating site goes on to explain, “This rating was determined based on the presence of the following words:
pain (9x); dangerous (8x); hell (4x); bastards (3x); death; (2x) dyke (1x)”
My response to this rating, in absolutely deadpan voice: Eek. Words. Oh, eek.
They didn’t even catch the insect fornication going on in this page. Hah!
(I should note that it only took me SIX tries to remember how to put an image coding onto my blogpost, after an equal number of tries I still had not figured out how to remove weird paragraph spacings. It also took me FIVE rounds of proofreading to bludgeon this post into something approaching grammatical orthographitude. Or whatever it’s called — I am having trouble retrieving words this morning. I think I’d better go forage some food before I try to do anything else.)

Thanks for the info. It would be thrilling to see things again to see if I would have that same sense of wonder.
An “opus” is a peice of music. I guess what I meant was “magnum opus”, a stunning artistic achievement.

Connie, on the cusp of migraines I’m terribly uneven in skills. I could type, but kept losing chunks of sentences when trying to speak, and could not remember how to warm up some soup in the microwave!
Rose, I think the roly-poly (also known as pillbug, sowbug, woodlouse or armadilla bug, Order Isopoda) is just about every kid’s favourite arthropod. They’re actually related to shrimps (prawns), and thus have seven pairs of legs (insects get by with three pairs of legs, and most of them also get wings when they’re adults). Maybe it’s time to get a basic insect field guide and go on safari!

I have never in my life seen pictures as beautiful as those!
My dear, you remind me that when I was a child, I used to spend hours looking at the bugs in our yard, and playing with them. My favorites were the “rolly-pollys”, as we called them, who curled up in a ball. I avoided “stink bugs” at all costs.

Oh goodness…you’ve reminded me to describe our blog rating graphic. I’ll take care of that asap! You know, for someone with a migraine, your ability to access so many of the ‘higher cognitive skills’ widgets even when you feel unable is quite impressive!
I checked out your link to the post on insects. Who knew bugs could be SO beautiful! Those photos are stunning…
